Schecke 15th cent. Burgund

This kind of garment was very popular in Burgund during the 15th century. It was adopted in a less elaborate way for daily wear of the lesser classes as well.

The garment shown is made from dark green cotton velvet and red silk brocade. It is worn over a shirt made of dark red linen. Decorations on outer Garment and shirt were to match each other.

A matching hat, the chaperon, goes with the whole garment.
